Portfolio Art Programs

These evening and weekend classes for talented students who decide to continue art education for more “practical” level. These programs allow artists to focus on “portfolio” areas: painting, creative thinking, illustration, graphic design, digital art and art history. For the end of four years of study every student will have extensive portfolio to show at enrollment in to college or workplace.

Workshops

These one or two-week intensive sessions are taught by Living Art Studio's instructors, outstanding artists, Dr. Jane Goretskaya and doctoral student, MA, Marina Bichinsky. They allow artists to build upon their knowledge. As evidence of their value, a growing number of our international alumni return regularly to advance their skills.

Beginning Studio Art

Studio art begins with the development of basic drawing skills using fundamental drawing tools such as pencil and charcoal. Students will complete assignments with contour drawing, rendering basic forms, and reproducing accurate proportion and perspective, as well as the representation of light and shadow. Students will then be introduced to more expressive modes of drawing and use of materials. Following the drawing portion of the course, students will apply their developing skills to an introduction to painting. Students will work with watercolor and/or acrylic paint, learning the nuances of each medium. The manipulation of color and its use in the rendering of observed objects as well as its expressive application and qualities will be emphasized. The latter portion of the course concentrates on sculptural work. Students will apply their developing sense of form, line, color, and composition to a new three-dimensional approach. Assignments will focus on the intentional application of all art elements and choice of raw materials in expressing their ideas and effectively communicating their

intentions.
